Our Volunteers:
All our amazing volunteers.
Everyone that’s ever had to give a speech where you start naming those you’d like to thank will know; it’s a dangerous game! The risk of leaving some one is pretty scary and this is definitely no exception.
The basic truth is that we’re indebted to so many people for the time and effort they give. Take our word for it when we say; the whole event would not happen without the good will and voluntary efforts of so many.
Anyone that’s ever had to give a thank you speech where you start name-checking those individuals you’d like to acknowledge will know; it’s a dangerous game! The risk of leaving someone is pretty scary and this is definitely no exception.
Although we’re too scared to name names, we would like to highlight four groups of fine people.
First of all to everyone from the Old Brodleians rugby club. Truly the hosts with the most when it comes to the time and effort needed to turn their sports facilities into a fantastic open-air music venue for the whole community. Players old and young, supporters, family, friends, sponsors …everyone corner of the club throws they’re weight behind the day. Around 125 volunteers turned out each year to stage the event, not to mention the small organising committee that never really stop planning and plotting all year round. Outstanding!
Secondly, the Brighouse Friends of Overgate. This volunteer group first suggested the notion of a music festival to the rugby club, at a time when the Brods we’re keen to introduce a summer celebration to their events calendar. The BFoO run their own events throughout the year raising thousands for Overgate. All their volunteers are on hand for the music festival whether they’re on the gates, manning the many stalls, and, not least in the run up to the day; selling tickets, making bunting, collecting raffle prizes, and baking buns and cakes.
Brodstock has quickly grown to the scale where we need even more support – that why we’ve brought in the professionals! We’re now an official Overgate Hospice and Yorkshire Air Ambulance event! We’re grateful to be working with some wonderful volunteers and fundraising teams for both charities and their experience and expertise allow us to keep growing and improving year on year!
And last, but by no means least, the folk without whom we simply have no ‘music’ festival; the performers! Every soloist, duo, group, rocker, ivory tinkler, string plucker, drum basher and vocal warbler…… all there for free; thus donating their time, talent and performance in aid of Calderdale’s only adult hospice and the county’s only airborne emergency services.
Inspiring stuff people. You should all be very proud!
